Open a Beauty Shop in Your Home

 

Most hairdressers know very early in life that styling hair is what they want to do. They also seem to have a flair for it that becomes apparent as soon as they lift a brush for the first time. If this describes you, it may be that you can have your very own beauty shop in your home.

 

Obviously, there are classes you are required to take in order to get your cosmetology license. However, when you have that natural talent, going through cosmetology school would be a breeze. There will be a state test you will have to take following graduation from the accredited school. Once you have your license in hand, you are ready to begin your new career.

 

There are a few jobs that you will always be working no matter where you move. Hairdressers fall into this category. If you are good at what you do, chances are excellent that you will be able to find a position anywhere you go. However, if you have the space and supplies you need, you can also open your very own beauty shop at your home.

 

Many people have done this using finished basements with outside entrances and exits, garages, a glassed in porch, and even a purchased building to go on your property. Now, there are some things that you will need if you decide to travel this route. Things that you will most likely already have access to are such things as electricity and water. You will also need access to a washer and dryer to take care of washing towels and capes. Those things you will most likely already have on the premises.

 

Something else you will need is a bathroom that has a sink and a toilet. Typically, you will want to purchase at least two barber chairs and styling stations. These are going to be needed to wash, cut, color, style and whatever else you find yourself doing to someone’s hair. While these can run pretty high in cost, you can shop around and find some that are used which will not cost you quite as much.

 

Once you have the equipment that you need, you will want to find some good suppliers to purchase such things as shampoos, conditioners, colors, and permanent solutions among other things. As you build your business, you can branch out to selling certain makeup and nail essentials. You may even be able to find a manicurist who wants to work with you doing the nails of customers that come in for hair appointments.

 

The most important thing you need to have to make a success of your beauty salon is talent. If you have a special talent that shows itself every time you style someone’s hair, word WILL get around. And if you are REALLY good, you will soon have more customers than you can handle. People appreciate an exceptionally talented hairdresser and will talk you up all over time. It’s even nicer when you can stay at home and receive your customers.
