Selling Romance

A different sort of home business that women have slowly been getting involved in for the last 15 years or so is that of selling romance. That’s probably a more polite way of saying “sex” because these companies were created to cater to women who wanted to spice up their love life. The first of these companies was started in 1984 by Cynthia C. Simmons in Florida and it was called Secret Parties. The premise of this was that women who represented Secret Parties would be invited into the homes of other women and conduct parties displaying and selling sensual aids, toys and lingerie. They were For Ladies Only and women loved them.

More companies have jumped on this bandwagon during the years since 1984 and now there are many of them who operate on the same principals as Secret Parties. They are still in home parties hosted by women and all of the invited guests are women. The representative shows all of the products and explains what they do. She will also answer all questions regarding a particular product. Much like the Tupperware parties of old, there are ways to win certain products as prizes, which is a lot of fun. At the end of the presentation, each woman is invited to spend time in another room with the representative where she can place her order in private. Some of these companies offer same night delivery so that the women can take their purchases home with them when they leave.

The representatives are paid a certain percentage of what they sell. Most of the time, these representatives are paid the night of the party and get to take their money home with them. Obviously, the more parties these women can get booked, the more money they will make. Even smaller parties can net a hundred dollar nights. These parties usually run 2 to 3 hours, depending on how many guests are in attendance. The representatives are not going to mind working an extra hour or 2 if it means a $500 dollar night for them.

In order to get started with these companies, there is usually an interview with the owner or manager followed by the purchase of a kit. This kit is meant to help give you a sampling of all of the bestselling products. As you make your way through a few parties and build up your revenue a bit, you can start purchasing other things to show at your parties. If you are working a party that offers same night delivery, you should probably expect to pay a bit more for your starter kit.

However you get started in this enterprise, you just may find your calling. Everything can be done right from your home office except, of course, for the parties. Now, if you do run into women who want to host parties but really don’t have a way to do that, you can offer you home to do so. In that way, everyone wins, and you will have the time of your life entertaining and educating.
