The Best Benefits of Being Work At Home

Not all of us can manage it of course, because the loss of an income from the family can often not be tolerated. For those who think that they may be able to make it work and are considering making the change, what benefits are there to being a stay at home parent?

Most obvious of all is the fact that you will be able to be home with your children, which isn't just stating the obvious. It gives you the chance to see all of their new achievements-the first step, the first word, learning to read. You miss far less than if you were at work for ten hours a day.

This gives you a chance to get to know your children better, and benefits them by allowing them to form a stronger bond with you. Daycare children face the possibility of many changes of carer over a short number of years, disrupting the growing relationships between them. A child with a stay at home parent has the stability of a single carer, with the security, comfort and lack of upset that the frequent separation may cause.

There is a great deal of freedom to being a stay at home parent. Instead of rushing to get to work on time an get the kids to daycare you can do what you want when you want. No rushing, no deadlines, nothing to stop you going to the zoo every day.

Over tiredness is a common problem with working parents who are away during the day, try to spend time with the children after work and then still have to find time to do the housework. This often means giving up sleep trying to get everything done. Without work you can be better rested, making you better able to cope with the children and better able to enjoy your time with the children rather than be stressed and annoyed with their normal childish behavior.

Being the main carer allows you to instill your own values during these, the most formative years of your child's life. This may be of particular importance to you if you adhere to any particular faith as there will be no outside religious influence.

Before we paint a picture that is all rosy, it should also be remembered that there are some drawbacks to staying at home. The main one is the isolation that it can cause for the parent who gives up work. You lose the contact with the people you once worked with and this can become lonely.

Greater efforts at socializing can help, remembering that children are frequently welcomed amongst friends who also have children. So although you may have to adjust your social circle there is no need to be alone.

The final consideration should be that of-who stays home? There is nothing to say that it has to be mom, instead it should be the one who wants to do it for they are the one who will give the best to the children.
