Why Shoud We Work from Home

If you dread to see Monday arrive each week, and the only light you see at the end of the tunnel is the arrival of Friday evening, you’ve probably spent at least a little bit of time dreaming of that moment when you turn in your 2 week notice at your current outside job. However, if your income is needed for your household and family, you may feel that quitting your outside job is just not an option. Before you sink even deeper into despair, it may not be as dire and impossible as you think.

First of all, one of the top reasons people have for working from home is to be more available to their families. This is especially true of families that include small children. Daycare is unbelievably expensive and many people find that they’re just working to pay for the cost. That certainly doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you worked from home, you could cut daycare expenses in half immediately. You may still need to have part time daycare so that you can get some work done, but once you’re organized, you’ll see some actual profit from working at home.

Gas prices have had everyone grumbling for some time, now and they don’t seem to be getting any better any time soon. Therefore, you need to factor in what you would save by NOT having to drive back and forth to work every day. That, alone, will be enough to buy extra food or pay a monthly bill.

Think of all the times you go out to eat when you work outside the home. Lunch is so much more exciting when you go eat in a restaurant with co-workers. When you work from home, everything you need to eat or drink is right in your kitchen. No more spending money on lunch every day.

Something else that comes to mind is that very few companies are family friendly. Therefore, if your child gets sick and you must stay at home, it is frowned upon by your bosses. This only adds to the stress already present from the child being ill. Now you have to worry about whether or not you’ll lose your job. That’s not an issue when you work from home. You can simply make sure your child is comfortable and work as you can. The option to finish up is always there when you have your partner at home that evening to look after the child while you work.

Add to all of these reasons the fact that when you work from home you get to do something you really WANT to do. No longer are you struggling to stay awake and focus during the day trying to work on something that bores you to tears. Now you can be excited to get up every day and waltz down the hall to your home office so you can get started working. Try sitting down and making a list of the pros and cons of working at home. The results should give you the answer you need.
